We are very excited to present Libera: Parallel Text Reader, a revolutionary language learning application for iOS. In this blog post we thought we would try to explain Libera in a nutshell and why we feel comfortable using such a big word like “revolutionary” to describe it.

There are countless language learning apps in the App Store, so what exactly makes Libera “revolutionary”?

Traditional parallel texts have long been considered an effective way for learners to enjoy foreign language texts and improve their proficiency in that language at the same time. Libera takes the strengths of these books, and adds to them the many benefits of mobile devices. This allows language learners to not only read articles and stories in the language they’re studying together with their native language, but also to hear native-speaker audio recordings, look up words in a dictionary, and check up on grammar points — all within Libera.

Having to put down the book you’re reading, look it up in a dictionary, find the relevant meaning, then go back to the book is time-consuming. Let’s be honest, this gets really tedious and boring after a while. Libera gives you a self-sufficient learning environment without the need to access other apps or reference materials — an entirely new way of reading texts in the language you’re studying, so that learning that language is more enjoyable and more effective than using printed parallel text books.
